He believes that the 30 year-old Kyrgiakos lacks match fitness.

Meanwhile Benitez anticipates plenty of teams taking points off the Reds, Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea.

He said: "This will be a different sort of title race. Already we have lost, and so have Manchester United.

"There are other teams who can make an impact - Spurs, Manchester City, Villa - and I believe it will be a lot harder this season for the top four teams to win every game.

"Villa will be difficult for us. They have pace, experience and ability. They do very well in away games because of that and are an extremely dangerous side."

Villa central defender Curtis Davies is doubtful after a recurrence of his shoulder problem.

Davies suffered the setback during the latter stages of the Europa League loss at Rapid Vienna and his replacement, rookie Shane Lowry, is amongst the candidates to replace him although Habib Beye could switch from right-back.

Boss Martin O'Neill will also be hoping striker John Carew is fit to make his first appearance of the season - the Norwegian missed the home league reversal by Wigan with a foot injury and then pulled out of the Vienna game with a virus

"Everybody could see there was a penalty," Benitez said afterwards. "It was so clear, it is unbelievable. With this referee, I knew this (a second penalty) was impossible."

When asked by Sky Sports what he thought of the referee, actions spoke louder than words as Benitez pulled out his spectacles before commenting: "We had a meeting the other day, and they said we cannot talk about the referee as a person or the decisions, but I think everybody today could see the situation.

"The fourth official is a young referee, and maybe he needs to calm down a bit. I do not know how old he is, but the fourth official is too young."

Marian Kello did not know whether he was coming or going earlier this summer - but the Slovakian is now determined to make the Hearts goalkeeper's jersey his own.

Kello spent last season on loan at Tynecastle from perennial feeder club FBK Kaunas and had been expected to return to Lithuania. But the 26-year-old did enough during the Clydesdale Bank Premier League run-in to earn a one-year deal with the Jambos and is now looking forward to continuing his rivalry with Janos Balogh.

Kello, who kept four clean sheets in the final six games of last season to help Hearts finish third, knows he must impress boss Csaba Laszlo to achieve his aims. "It's up to the manager," Kello said. "Nobody (else) can say, 'You are here and you are number one'."

Prior to his recall, Kello spent six months kicking his heels while Balogh took a grip on the number one jersey.

He may have to bide his time again after Laszlo hinted Balogh would be given the nod in Monday night's opening SPL game of the season at Dundee United.

Balogh saved a penalty on his last visit to Tannadice, and when asked who held the edge, Laszlo said: "Psychologically, maybe Balogh. (In the) last game in Dundee he saved a penalty.

"There is a real competition for places and I'm prepared to fight for mine."

Paul Scharner has warned he will leave Wigan Athletic if he is forced to play at the back under Roberto Martinez.
Scharner plays in midfield for his country and the 29-year-old has now decided that is where he wants to play at club level.
However, new manager Martinez is keen for Scharner to remain at the heart of his defence, a decision he has objected to.
The former SK Brann man has hinted he is ready to move on, but accepts he may be forced to stay until January.
"The manager told me he needs me to play at the back, to bring the ball out and to interpret his tactical concept," he said in the Sunday Mirror.
"But I have decided to play in midfield, because that's where I play for Austria, and I told him as much.

Buzz Up!Emmanuel Adebayor and Stephen Ireland combined to launch Manchester City into a bright new era with a 2-0 victory at Blackburn.
Adebayor belted home Shaun Wright-Phillips' lay-off to give Mark Hughes' men the perfect start after just three minutes.
Then, with stoppage time approaching, Wright-Phillips again supplied the final ball, although Ireland still had plenty to do before he beat Paul Robinson at his near post.
City were forced to survive periods of intense Rovers pressure. But with Kolo Toure in fine form and Shay Given making excellent saves to deny Chris Samba and Jason Roberts, City were able to celebrate their success with gusto.
City's opener came on the counter-attack following a Blackburn corner and it soon became evident the home side were going to enjoy a long period of dominance.
Amid a plethora of Blackburn chances, a couple stood out. Benni McCarthy cushioned a fine header into the path of Roberts and an El Hadji-Diouf corner that dropped onto Chris Samba's head. Unfortunately for the hosts, on the first occasion Roberts lashed his shot over. On the second Given flew across his goal to make an excellent save.

With Cristiano Ronaldo now settled in at Real Madrid and Carlos Tevez moving down the road to Manchester City, Sir Alex Ferguson has had a bit of adjusting to do this summer.
And, according to Fletcher, the outcome is an orthodox 4-4-2 formation that he believes will be good enough to terrorise opposition at home and abroad.
"We have always been tight at the back because we have a great defensive record but maybe we have been a little bit too expansive at times," he said.
"The ethos of the club is about attacking football. However, you can't be wide open and attacking all the time.
"You also have to be disciplined and I think you are going to see a more rigid 4-4-2 formation this season."

Owen has already scored twice in three appearances on United's pre-season Far East tour and Ferguson is adamant the former Liverpool and Newcastle striker can maintain that scoring rate in the Premier League.

"I hope it's plenty," Ferguson said when asked how many goals Owen could score.

"If you look at his goal-scoring record over the years, even the last two years at Newcastle in difficult times, he's scored at one in two.

"He's easily capable of that level, one in two games, so if he players 25 games for me next season, I think he'll get 15 goals."

Despite losing Portuguese Cristiano Ronaldo and Argentine Carlos Tevez from his strike-force in the close season, Ferguson has no shortage of fire-power at his disposal.

Wayne Rooney, Dimitar Berbatov and Federico Macheda all scored in United's 3-2 win over FC Seoul on Friday, and Ferguson said he was still figuring out the best way to use his forward talent.

Wenger is yet to boost the attacking contingent of his squad this summer, despite the recent sale of striker Emmanuel Adebayor to Manchester City. So far, Belgian centre-back Thomas Vermaelen is the only major addition to the Gunners' squad during the transfer window.qa

The French striker, a £30 million acquisition from Lyon, replaced Ronaldo at half-time at the Tallaght Stadium and the former Lyon forward scored with just three minutes remaining to break the home side's hearts.

Ronaldo's every touch was booed by the 10,915 fans squashed into Rovers' Tallaght Stadium, where capacity was trebled to see Real's Galacticos who had trained for a week on the outskirts of Dublin.

Some tried to catch a glimpse of the world player of the year from nearby apartments, many with 190,000 euro for sale signs attached, roughly what Real's new number nine earns a week.

The Spanish giants lined up with the likes of Raul, Gonzalo Higuain and Guti from the start, although the first of the club's major summer signings, Kaka, was granted extra holiday following his triumphant Confederations Cup campaign with Brazil.

However, all eyes were on £80m world record signing Ronaldo making his debut, but the Shamrock players treated him to a taste of what it is like playing week in week out in the League of Ireland as Rovers centre-half Pat Flynn sent the winger clattering to the floor after his first touches had sent him speeding past defenders in trademark style.

Left-back Marcelo came close for Real in the sixth minute, shooting from just outside the box with his right foot, forcing goalkeeper Barry Murphy to deflect the ball out for a corner.

Kaizer Chiefs vs Manchester City

John Terry needs to end his summer of silence and clarify whether his future lies with Chelsea or Manchester City.

While a succession of statements have come out of the Stamford Bridge club insisting their captain is not for sale, Terry's refusal to commit himself speaks volumes.

Everybody knows he is considering his future, and will be difficult for people to accept if he now comes out and pledges his loyalty to Chelsea.

It is a surprising state of affairs. We do not know what has gone on behind the scenes but I do not think that Terry would move for money alone.

Chelsea have reportedly offered him £150,000-a-week while Manchester City will pay him £200,000-a-week. Of course it is a significant difference, but would Terry really notice an extra million pounds in the bank? What is he going to be able to buy that he cannot already afford?

He has reached a point where he is so wealthy he should have the freedom to play wherever he wants.

Maybe he just feels as though he needs a change of scenery and lifestyle. He has been at Chelsea for over a decade and is entering the final few years of his career. Sometimes people just feel like a new challenge.

Malaysia XI 0-2 Man UnitedMichael Owen was on the mark again as Manchester United wrapped up the Malaysian leg of their tour with another win.
Owen got United's second, just two minutes after Federico Macheda's 11th-minute opener, which proved to be the end of the scoring for United, despite their domination.
Anderson and Nani both wasted decent opportunities near the end.

Michael Owen was on the mark again as Manchester United wrapped up the Malaysian leg of their Far East tour with another comfortable 2-0 win over a Malaysia XI.

live streming Malaysia Manchester United

Well that's it! United win 2-0 with Macheda and Owen scoring early on in the first half. 93 United get a corner which surely must be the last chance of the game and the Malaysian defence head it clear but the ball goes back to Rooney who volleys and it is blocked. 89 Malaysia come close again! Strong half volley struck on the edge of the box which forced Kuszczak to perform an acrobatic save to keep it out. 88 Malaysia are looking to end on a high with a very dangerous low cross from the right which saw Kuszczak fully stretch and parry it away. 87 Malaysia have a chance to pull one back with a corner but the after some calm defending Ronney comfortably heads the ball back to Kuszczak. 85 It's Rooney's turn again to come close to a goal! He passed the ball to Gibson who found himself with much free space down the right who passed the ball back to him but the goalkeeper was quick to gather the ball. 83 Rooney performs what looks like a rugby tackle but the referee saw no problem with it. The Malaysian player is still feeling the effects and is on the ground in pain eventually being carried off on a stretcher. 80 Anderson comes so close! Neat work on the edge of the box found O'Shea free down the right who passed it to the Brazilian who shot first time and it went agonisingly close! 78 United are getting closer and closer to finding that third goal it only feels like a matter of time. But then again if Malaysia can hold on and pull one back we'll be in for a cracking last 10 minutes! 74 Scholes strikes one of his trademark 30 yard shots but it was blocked. Rooney then picked up the ball on the edge on the left hand side but it just went wide of the post. 73 Nani crosses from the right wing and Berbatov was free but he headed it straight at the goalkeeper. Again should have done better with that opportunity. 70 Gibson almost scores with his first touch after a nice one-two with Berbatov down the right saw Gibson free on the edge of the box but his shot was blocked and went out for a corner. Nani took the corner and Rooney headed wide when he really should have done better. 69 United make more changes: Anderson, Scholes and Gibson on for Fletcher, Giggs and Carrick. 68 Rooney almost scores with his first touch after a nice ball over the top from Ferdinand but it just went wide. 66 Wayne Rooney is coming on for Macheda and it seems Rooney is very popular with the Malaysian fans receiving a huge cheer. 65 Malaysian substitutions: Bakhtiar and Amar on for Amri and Umar. 62 Berbatov, Ferdinand, O'Shea and Nani come on for Owen, Evans, Neville and Tosic. 57 United bring on Evra to replace Fabio who had to be carried off on a stretcher. 56 Malaysia substitutions: Gurusamy on for Rahim and Muhymeen on for Kuanlan. 55 Macheda appeals for a penalty as he was bought down inside the box but the ball was cleanly taken. 55 Malaysia come close to a glorious opportunity to score! Neat work down the right hand side results in a nice pass back to the edge of the box and for some reason the player took a touch when he really should have shot first time. 52 United are slowly getting back into their groove passing the ball neatly acroos the pitch then almost sending Owen through but the goalkeeper was quick to rush out. 49 Malaysia have started brightly at the beginning of the second half with the majority of possession in the United half. 45 The second half begins and United have made only one change bringing on Thomas Kuszczak for Ben Foster. - Many of you are going for United wins. Traffic says 3-0, raraviin is going for 3-1, mehafizakmal 5-1, Bryant 4-0 and ghostfreak believes it will be 3-0 to United. - So what do you think the final score will be? let us know! - Well that brings an end to the first half with United 2-0 ahead. 45 How odd! Malaysia are preparing a substitution to come on when there is less than 1 minute of the first half remaining!? 45 Two minutes added for stoppage time. 44 Who said they're missing Ronaldo!? First Owen then Macheda slipped the ball through Malaysian legs resulting in Macheda having his shot blocked. 42 Malaysia threaten the United goal but they are unable to find a way through 39 The match is being played at a very slow pace at the moment. Hopefully it'll pick up towards the end of the first half like it did the last time these two sides met when Amri scored when Malaysia were 2-0 down... 35 Game stopped for a few minutes due to an injured Malaysian player. We're back up and running again..... 32 so close to 3-0! Tosic with a great cross from the left and Owen just glided the ball towards the goal only to see it come off the post... 27' Tosic invokes memories of Ronaldo with a few stepovers, but the Malaysian right-back isn't fooled and United's move forward breaks down soon enough. 26' Nothing comes of the free-kick though... 25' Yahyah breaks foward now and Tosic is forced to bring him down... free-kick to the hosts... 24' The Malaysians have done well over the past five minutes and are beginning to enjoy a bit of possession. 23' Just as an aside, Ben Foster is sporting an all-white shirt with a red flash zipping across it. That must be a first for a goalkeeping top. Frankly, it looks weird. 20' Terrific run now by Giggs, as the Welshman dances past two challenges... he's eventually stopped by the third, but good intent nevertheless! 19' Owen's caught offside as he latches onto a long ball forward... he's hungry tonight. 17' United are looking classy at the moment. Their passing is fluent and the Malaysians are struggling to get out of their own half. 16' Owen rises to meet a cross with his forehead, but it glances wide of the mark! 15' The Malaysians have made a change at right-back. Thirumurugon, who was actually on the starting team sheet, has come on to replace someone who had apparently started instead of him. 14' Had Owen cost United anything, he would already be paying some of his transfer fee back. Is Michael Owen any good? 13' GOAL! OWEN TAKES HIS UNITED TALLY TO TWO GOALS IN TWO GAMES! It stems from a Tosic cross which causes confusion in the Malaysia box as Macheda stabs at it... Owen is on hand to fire home from close range in typical fashion as the ball falls kindly to him! 11' GOAL! MACHEDA OPENS THE SCORING! It's a simple tap in for the Italian after some unselfish work from Fletcher, who squared the ball from the far side after the ball ricocheted off Macheda to him! One-nil! 9' Tosic leaps like a salmon to win a header... he takes a hefty shoulder charge in the process and wins a free-kick. Credit to him, he gets back up without any fuss. 7' Giggs lifts it to the edge of the box, where Carrick takes it on with a first time volley! But it's way over the bar from the United midfielder and Marlias isn't troubled. 6' Fabio forces a corner now for United, their first of the game. Giggs will take it with his left peg... 5' Another United cross into the box is this time dealt with by keeper Marlias, who hits the deck in theatrical fashion while claiming the ball. 4' Yahyah brings the already excited crowd to its feet as he threatens to burst forward, but there's no way through this time. 3' Macheda does well to feed the overlapping Neville on the United right... but the full-backs cross is too deep, even for the late arriving Tosic at the back stick. 2' Malaysia in blue shirts and white shorts today. United are in their new home kit. 1' Here we go! Underway at the Bukit Jalil Stadium! - We're just having a minute's silence following the terrorist attacks in Jakarta on Friday... - Here's the Malaysia XI's starting XI: Marlias, Thirumurugon, Zofuan, Zamani, Putra, Kumalan, Rahim, Umar, Yayyah, Amri, Indra - The Malaysians have made three changes to the side which fell 3-2 in Saturday's game. - Here's how United line up: Foster, Neville, Evans, Brown, Fabio, Fletcher, Carrick, Giggs, Tosic, Macheda, Owen - Youngsters Zoran Tosic and Federico Macheda also start, with Ben Foster keeping goal. - Manchester United take on a Malaysia XI for the second time in three days, with Michael Owen handed the chance to start for the first time. After the recent terror attacks in Jakarta which forced Manchester United to cancel their trip to Indonesia as part of their Far East tour it remained to be seen what effect these events had actually had on the players.

However, Rooney got United off to a flying start in the ninth minute after some terrible defending by Malaysia. An undemanding cross from the right hand side somehow evaded the entire Malaysian defence and Dimitar Berbatov's shot forced a save that was parried into the path of Rooney to finish.

Twenty minutes later it was 2-0 when Portuguese winger Nani coolly slotted the ball home after a similar error by the Malaysian back line, this time from the left hand side.

As the first half was drawing to a close, Malaysian playmaker Amri scored a magnificent lob over Edwin van der Sar, who was standing some 10 yards off his line, to give the home crowd a lift going into the break.

Hull boss Phil Brown is planning to meet Fulham striker Bobby Zamora on Tuesday to discuss a potential £5million move to the KC Stadium.

The Tigers have been given permission to speak to the former Tottenham and West Ham forward after their club record-equalling bid was accepted last week.

Brown is anxious to bring in more firepower after seeing previous moves for Michael Owen, Fraizer Campbell, Marc-Antoine Fortune and Daryl Murphy fall by the wayside this summer, and said: "I'm hopefully speaking with Bobby Zamora to discuss personal terms and show him around what could be his new home."

Another forward linked with a move to the KC Stadium is Liverpool's Andriy Voronin but Brown has played down the speculation.

Ukraine international Voronin could be made available after spending last season on loan at Hertha Berlin.

"We have not made any contact with Liverpool with regards to Andriy Voronin," said Brown.

However, when asked if Voronin was a player that could interest him, he added: "Of course he would."

For vast swathes of the 86 overs bowled in the day, Pakistan's batsmen held sway, blunting a modest attack on a pitch that lost most of its moisture and bite after the opening session. But with stumps beckoning, the second new ball vindicated Kumar Sangakkara's decision to bowl first, with three wickets in the space of eight balls reducing Pakistan to 289 for 7. Pakistan's total total owed much to Khurram Manzoor and Mohammad Yousuf, who added 167 for the third wicket after Thilan Thushara had taken two wickets in an over to stymie a promising start. Both Manzoor and Yousuf were dismissed in the 90s, and it was left to Shoaib Malik and Misbah-ul-Haq to shepherd the side through to the close. They nearly managed to, until the new ball turned out to be the big bad wolf.

Malik, short of runs and form in the series, had struck some pleasing strokes on his way to 45, and the partnership with Misbah was worth 75 when Thushara arced one into his pads from outside off stump. Malik missed, and that was that. Three balls later, Misbah lunged to drive Nuwan Kulasekara, and the thin inside edge was neatly taken by Tillakaratne Dilshan behind the stumps. When Umar Gul then chopped one back on to his stumps, the reversal of fortune was complete.

It may have been the last bow for Chaminda Vaas, a veteran of 111 Tests with 354 wickets to his name, but apart from that Thushara over in mid-morning, there was little for Sri Lanka to celebrate after they sent Pakistan in to bat under overcast Colombo skies. Fawad Alam, with a century on debut last week, had just struck his first four of the innings, when he edged one behind to Dilshan, and if Thushara was delighted with that, he was positively delirious three balls later. Younis Khan cut one back on to his stumps, and 34 for 0 had become 36 for 2.

As Yousuf walked out, wagers were probably placed on how quickly Rangana Herath would be brought on. As it was, Sangakkara waited till the 17th over before throwing the ball to Sri Lanka's surprise spin weapon of the series, but the impact wasn't what was desired. The first-session damage would have been greater than 103 runs but for a sluggish outfield that didn't give the batsmen full value for their strokes.

In his last Test at the home of cricket, Andrew Flintoff broke England's 75-year Lord's curse with his first five-wicket haul since the Ashes-clinching Oval Test of 2005. It was, unquestionably, a performance that will enhance his already mythical status within English cricket, but more pertinently for now, delivered England to a 1-0 series lead heading into Edgbaston.
Victory was sealed 17 minutes before lunch when Graeme Swann, another major contributor on Monday, pegged back Mitchell Johnson's middle stump with the Australian total at 406. The wicket prompted scenes of jubilation not witnessed at Lord's in decades, and a collective furrowing of brows in the Australian dressing rooms as the series momentum shifted sharply in the hosts' favour.
Flintoff, who bowled unchanged for ten overs from the Pavilion End to claim three of the five Australian wickets to fall on Monday, broke first from England's celebratory huddle to shake the hands of the vanquished Johnson and his batting partner, Ben Hilfenhaus. It was a scene that mirrored the final act of the corresponding Test four years ago, and envoked a spirit of cricket that had been bruised over the previous four days.

Hauritz and Siddle combined for a 44-run ninth wicket stand - the second-highest partnership of the Australian innings - before the former flashed at Onions' third delivery of the day and was caught by Collingwood at third slip for 24. Hauritz had displayed immense courage to that point, batting with a dislocated finger on his right hand which was clearly causing him discomfort. On many occasions, Hauritz withdrew his hand from the bat shortly after making contact, but held firm for 47 balls and 67 minutes.
Siddle and Hilfenhaus took Australia within 10 runs of the follow-on target, before Siddle was dislodged by Onions for 35. Onions finished the innings with figures of 3 for 41 from 11 overs - including 2 for 9 on Saturday - and was far more effective than Stuart Broad, whose short-pitched strategy seldom threatened. In total, Australia added 59 runs for the loss of two wickets from 14 overs on the third morning.

England dominant with 521-run lead, online score updates

A methodical second-innings batting performance has England poised to end Australia's era of dominance at Lord's. Only inclement weather or a historic Australian fourth-innings effort can deny Andrew Strauss' men, who have amassed an authoritative 521-run lead after three days of the second Test.
No team has successfully chased more than 418 runs to win a Test match - the record at Lord's is 344 - although the South Africans demonstrated recently that survival at this ground is possible in desperate, late innings situations. Graeme Smith's side batted for almost 12 hours to reach 393 for 3 to save the first Test almost a year ago to the day, but whether Australia's batsmen are capable of holding out a driven and in-form England pace attack for six sessions remains to be seen.
Rain prompted a premature end to play on Saturday, and Australia will be hoping for more of the same over days four and five. Intermittent showers are predicted for Sunday and Monday, but they will presumably bring with them heavy overhead conditions which the likes of James Anderson and Graham Onions can exploit, as was the case on a rain-interrupted day two.
England, having declined to enforce the follow-on, advanced to 311 for 6 in their second innings, scoring their runs at a merry 4.35 an over and again taking a fancy to the out-of-sorts Mitchell Johnson. Kevin Pietersen (44 from 101 balls) and Paul Collingwood (54 from 80) denied the Australians any hope of a prompt end to the innings, and Matt Prior (61 from 42) compounded the tourists' misery with an innings that could scarcely have been more dashing had it taken place in the Twenty20 arena

James Anderson revealed a desire not to waste their 'get-out-of-jail' card was behind England's dominant display.
Anderson, whose defiant innings was a crucial ingredient of escaping Cardiff with a dramatic draw last Sunday evening, starred with both bat and ball as Australia closed the second day on 156 for eight, still 70 runs short of avoiding the follow-on at Lord's.
Anderson stars as Aussies struggle
The 26-year-old claimed four for 36, his best Ashes figures, after hitting an eye-catching 29 and sharing in a 47-run alliance for the 10th wicket with Graham Onions.
"Everyone wanted to start afresh here," said Anderson.
"We used the fact we got out of jail a little bit in Cardiff and are still in the series at 0-0. We knew we had to take advantage of that.
"We didn't want to waste getting a draw out of that game by coming here and not performing."
Although England lost three wickets in as many overs at the start of a rain-affected day, they were on top from then onwards

AUSTRALIA vs ENGLAND,Aus chases a risk

Australia were left needing to set a new world record if they were to win the second Test against England at Lord's.
England, when rain forced an early close on Saturday, the third day, were 311 for six, a lead of 521, with two days remaining.
Whether they declared on that total overnight, as seemed likely, or batted on, it meant Australia would have to set a new world record for the highest fourth innings total to win a Test, surpassing the 418 for seven made by the West Indies against Australia in Antigua in 2002/03.
Catch the Day 3 action in pics
Both totals were well in excess of the corresponding record for a Test at Lord's, the 344 for one made by the West Indies against England in 1984.
England, bidding for a first Test win over Australia at Lord's in 75 years, were indebted to a stand of 86 in 74 balls between Paul Collingwood (54) and wicket-keeper Matt Prior (60).
Their innings had stalled during the second session but Prior, who faced just 42 balls with nine fours, regained the initiative, and helped justify captain Andrew Strauss' decision not to enforce the follow-on, before he was run out by Marcus North's direct hit.
Collingwood, who'd batted for over six hours to help England secure a draw in last week's series opener in Cardiff, posted his third fifty in four innings in a brisk 72 balls.

The day had started brightly for Bangladesh with Tamim appearing to be in a good frame of mind. He waited for full deliveries to drive and showed enough patience in defending or leaving the length balls outside off stump. It was a waiting game which he seemed to be winning before Bernard produced a fatal prod to a delivery that angled away. A short while before that, Enamul Haque jnr, the night-watchman, square drove and guided to third man for two boundaries before being strangled down the leg side. And when Junaid Siddique dragged a floater from Ryan Austin onto the stumps, Bangladesh were suddenly wobbling at 77 for 4. Soon, Ashraful fell and West Indies turned up the pressure.

westindies vs bangladesh online match updates, online scores

A slack performance from Bangladesh's batsmen spoiled a decent start provided by Tamim Iqbal and left the visitors in trouble on 134 for 5 at lunch on the second day in Grenada.
It was a strange session of play. The bowling wasn't threatening enough to take four wickets but the batting wasn't disciplined either. West Indies were neither wayward nor brilliant. They didn't bowl a cluster of pressure-building deliveries and Bangladesh prospered initially. But with Tamim's exit, they grew less disciplined and started to play poorly.
Their sloppy performance was best captured by Mohammad Ashraful's dismissal. He had struggled in the first Test but here he started well. He did not attempt extravagant shots and seemed to be playing each ball on its merit. He had hit a fine square drive and an on-driven boundary before the customary lapse. It was a short and wide delivery from Ryan Hinds, the left-arm spinner, and Ashraful cut it tamely to point. It was similar to how David Bernard had fallen in West Indies' innings. Both teams' batsmen seem to be outdoing each other in their lack of commitment. Post Ashraful's exit, the bowling got tighter and Raqibul Hasan, who unlike in the first Test, played as close to the body as possible. Shakib Al Hasan batted carefully at the other end to ensure there wouldn't be any further damage

ndrew Strauss' side continued to dominate Australia after passing up the opportunity to enforce the follow-on and although their progress was checked in the afternoon, they progressed to 199 for four, an overall advantage of 409 runs.

Third-wicket duo Ravi Bopara and Kevin Pietersen ground out a 73-stand in 28 overs, battling against poor form and poor fitness respectively, before they departed in quick succession.

Bopara, dropped once and given the benefit of the doubt on another disputed catch, eventually turned straight to short leg for 27 to become Nathan Hauritz's third success.

And Pietersen (44) was caught behind off Peter Siddle for the second time in the contest, off an inside edge, jabbing at a ball which lifted.

England lost both openers after lunch as off-spinner Hauritz shook off the effects of dislocating a finger in his bowling hand on day one to dismiss captain Strauss and Alastair Cook in consecutive overs.

Cook (32) was pinned leg before, falling over, by a delivery which just gripped on the surface while Strauss (32) was undone by a big turner which flew off the edge to slip.

Earlier, Graham Onions claimed two for nine in three overs as Australia, who resumed overnight on 156 for eight, were dismissed for 215 inside one hour on the third morning.

Australia vs england, Cook and Strauss hurt wayward Australia

Mitchell Johnson arrived on these shores amid a blaze of publicity proclaiming him as the best paceman in international cricket. One Test and one session later, however, and Johnson can no longer count himself among the best quicks in the Australian team, much less the planet, following a morning in which he ceded the early initiative to England.
Johnson's figures of 0 for 53 from eight overs, including eleven boundaries, didn't quite relay the horror that was his first session in a Lord's Test. Whether overawed by the occasion, thrown by the ground's pronounced slope or just shy of form and confidence, Australia's spearhead appeared decidedly blunt in his exchanges with Andrew Strauss (47 not out) and Alastair Cook (67 not out), neither of whom were troubled in any way by the man who so tormented the South Africans three months ago.
Johnson's inaccuracy contrasted sharply with the disciplined lines of Tasmanian paceman Ben Hilfenhaus. He delivered three consecutive maidens to start proceedings, and may well have had Cook caught at second slip had Ricky Ponting been fractionally closer to the bat. But any pressure Hilfenhaus created at the Nursery End was promptly released in the shadows of the pavilion, as Johnson surrendered the first session ascendancy in one of his poorer opening spells in recent memory.

Ronaldo no prima donna

"He's as I expected him to be. He is the first to arrive at a training session, he has fully integrated into the squad, he doesn't act as a star," he said during his first post-training press conference as Real's new coach.

"He is a very talented but normal player who is devoted to Real Madrid. His image is very different to how he is as a player."

Real signed the player from Manchester United last month on a six-year deal worth around 94 million euros (£80 million) and he will reportedly be paid 13 million euros each season, making him the most expensive player in the world.

The 24-year-old was officially unveiled before some 75,000 ecstatic Real fans on July 6 at the Santiago Bernabeu stadium.

He had to be hurried away when spectators leapt over security barriers to try to get an autograpah.

Real has spent over 200 million euros in the pre-season to sign new talent, including Brazilian playmaker Kaka and French international striker Karim Benzema.

Pellegrini said he hopes the squad will be completed by the end of the month.

"The sooner the better. July 27 would be good because that's when all our internationals return," he said when asked for an ideal date to have his squad finalised.

"But I'm not bothered about waiting a while longer if there are any doubts concerning a signing. There's no deadline. I know what I want, but I'm not looking to have it for our first pre-season match," he added.

Australia A to big win

Callum Ferguson guided Australia A to a comfortable eight-wicket win over Pakistan A to level the one-day series 1-1 in Brisbane. After being thrashed by 146 runs in the first match, the Australians began strongly in the second as their seamers restricted Pakistan to 188.

Only Mohammad Hafeez with 75 and Sarfraz Ahmed (45) offered any real resistance as Brett Geeves tied things down with 3 for 32 and Clint McKay, Doug Bollinger and Moises Henriques picked up two each. It was a strong performance by the hosts after losing the toss and they reached their target with more than 15 overs to spare.

David Warner (29) and Tim Paine (28) were the only wickets to fall, after they helped Australia to a quick start. Ferguson and Adam Voges then clicked into cruise control and sailed through the rest of the chase with relative ease.

Ferguson finished unbeaten on 72 from 78 deliveries and Voges launched a couple of sixes in his 49 not out. Ferguson said the tone had been set in the first ten overs of the day, when Australia's bowling and sharp fielding restricted their opponents, and then he was keen for some valuable time in the middle.

James Anderson and Monty Panesar produced the most important innings of their lives as England's final pair survived 11.3 overs to pull off a thrilling escape at Cardiff. When Paul Collingwood fell for a monumental 245-ball 74 England still trailed by six, but once Australia had to bat again, valuable time was taken out of the game leaving Andrew Strauss and a packed Cardiff nervously clock-watching. The Australians threw everything into the final hour in an electric atmosphere with the crowd cheering the two unlikely batting heroes as though the Ashes had been won.

A vital moment came when Anderson collected consecutive boundaries off Peter Siddle to finally erase the deficit. It meant that two further overs would be lost from the remaining allocation, but there was yet another twist. Australia had bowled their overs quickly during the final hour, which meant it came down to a clock-watch situation for the batsmen. The crucial mark was 6.40pm: at that point it meant there was no time for Australia to start a run chase.
